The Three Main Acts of A Blog Post

Do you know what makes a blog post similar to a magic trick?

In the 2006 movie The Prestige, they said that every great magic trick has 3 acts.

The same goes for your blog post.

And when you know about them, you have the advantage of being able to write a smart, consistent, effective and magical blog post.

We’re going to be talking about these 3 main acts in a while, but first…

Why you need to know them

When you’re writing for you blog, business website, magazine or newspaper you wouldn’t want to just write whatever comes to your head, right?

Because if you do, usually it will look really cluttered.

Think of it as dressing up your blog post.

People prefer to read posts with good formatting and structure, compared to those that sound like the writer is just talking and ranting.

  • You can get you message through more effectively
  • Your blog posts will look professionally written
  • People will actually like your writing, and want to read more from you
  • A well-written and properly formatted post paves way to a stronger call to action

Every magic trick consists of 3 parts

And so do your blog posts.

The first act is called the ‘Pledge’. It’s where you entice your audience and tell them what your magic trick will be about.

The ‘Turn’ is a vital part of your blog post, here you have the power to convince your audience to continue reading. Failure in writing a powerful opener would only let your audience click the ‘back’ button.

Here is where you will make good on your ‘Pledge’ and ‘Turn’. Giving them the best content followed by a strong call to action. This part is called the ‘Prestige’.

Now go out and write amazing stories and content that are well-formatted and geared toward a strong climax.

If you like what you’re reading, there’s definitely more to come.
